JULIO PASTOR, Double bass

Born in Onil (Alicante) in 1990, he began studying cello at the age of seven with his father. He later broadened his musical training by obtaining an intermediate degree in trumpet. He pursued his higher education in double bass at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Óscar Esplá in Alicante with professors Josep Hernández and Moisés Parejo, completing his third year at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica Giuseppe Verdi in Turin with Maestro Paolo Borsarelli through an Erasmus scholarship. He completed his training with a Master’s Degree in Solo Performance at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska under Professor Luis Cabrera, graduating with top honors.

 

During the 2016/17 season, he worked as principal double bass with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, and in March 2017 he was awarded the Sociedad de Conciertos de Alicante Prize.

 

He has been a full member of numerous youth orchestras, including the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, European Union Youth Orchestra, Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, and Joven Orquesta Nacional de Holanda. In addition, he has collaborated with orchestras such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others.

 

He has also worked as a professor in various youth orchestra programs, including the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya, Joven Orquesta de Andalucía, and the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España.

 

He currently serves as double bass professor at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco Musikene and, since February 2017, has been a full member and assistant principal of the Orquesta Nacional de España.

 

In 2021, together with other leading Spanish double bassists of his generation, he founded the project “Jornadas del Contrabajo,” in which he participates as both professor and coordinator in training courses throughout Spain.
